FAQ
The 100G SFP-DD Active Optical Cable (AOC) is a high-speed, double-channel optical interconnect designed for 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications in data centers and high-density network environments. Featuring hot-pluggable SFP-DD connectors, the cable integrates two 850nm VCSEL transmit channels and two PIN receiver channels, supporting up to 53.125Gbps per lane and an aggregate data rate of 106.25Gbps. Integrated CDR circuitry on both the transmitter and receiver sides helps maintain signal integrity for high-speed PAM4 transmission.
Designed for short-distance connectivity within racks and across adjacent racks, this AOC combines the advantages of integrated optical transmission with a compact SFP-DD form factor. Its armored construction provides additional mechanical protection, while the LSZH jacket, low-latency optical architecture, and DDM/DOM support make it suitable for high-density 100G Ethernet deployments where reliable connectivity, simplified installation, and efficient cable management are important.

OEM and customized 100G SFP-DD AOC solutions are available for network equipment manufacturers, system integrators, distributors, and data center operators. Customization options may include cable length, fiber type, armored construction, connector labeling, product identification, packaging, branding, and other project-specific requirements.
For volume deployments, compatibility can be evaluated with specific switches, servers, NICs, and other SFP-DD networking equipment. Customers can provide the target equipment, required transmission distance, fiber type, cable length, operating conditions, and quantity for configuration and compatibility assessment.
Why does the SFP-DD AOC use PAM4?
PAM4 enables two bits of information to be transmitted per symbol, allowing the SFP-DD interface to achieve higher data rates without requiring a proportional increase in the number of physical lanes. This architecture enables 100G-class transmission using two electrical/optical channels.
What is the function of the integrated CDR?
The integrated Clock and Data Recovery circuitry helps recover the timing of incoming high-speed signals and regenerate cleaner data signals. CDR is particularly important for high-speed PAM4 transmission because it helps maintain signal quality and timing performance across the link.
What is the maximum transmission distance?
The specified maximum reach is 70m over OM3 multimode fiber. This makes the cable primarily suitable for connections within the same rack, between adjacent racks, and other short-distance data center links.
What is the benefit of the armored construction?
The armored construction provides additional physical protection for the optical fibers against mechanical stress during installation, routing, and maintenance. It can be particularly useful in dense network environments where cables are frequently handled or installed in constrained pathways.
Does the cable require separate optical transceivers?
No. The VCSEL transmitters and PIN receivers are integrated into the SFP-DD cable ends. The complete AOC can therefore be installed directly into compatible SFP-DD ports without requiring separate optical modules or fiber patch cables.
Is this cable compatible with any SFP-DD port?
The cable follows the SFP-DD form factor and relevant SFP-DD standards, but actual interoperability depends on the host equipment’s implementation and supported operating modes. Compatibility should be verified with the specific switch, server, NIC, or other networking platform before large-scale deployment.
