FAQ
The 96-Fiber MTP/MPO Single Mode Trunk Cable is a factory-terminated high-density fiber assembly designed to simplify backbone and interconnect deployment in data centers, telecommunications facilities, and other space-constrained optical networks. It combines eight 12-fiber MTP/MPO connectors at each end with 96-fiber OS2 single-mode optical cable, providing a compact alternative to large numbers of individual patch cords. Pre-terminated connectors enable faster installation, consistent optical performance, and simplified cable management while maximizing fiber density within racks and pathways.
The assembly is available with MTP® or MPO connectors, male or female configurations, and UPC or APC polishing. Type A straight, Type B cross-over, and Type C cross-pair polarity options allow the cable to be matched to different MTP/MPO architectures. With support for customized fiber counts, cable lengths, jacket materials, and connector configurations, it can be integrated into high-density 40G, 100G, and other parallel-optics network environments.

OEM and custom MTP/MPO trunk cable assemblies are available for project-specific requirements. Customers can specify fiber count, fiber type, connector brand, MTP/MPO connector gender, connector polish, polarity, cable length, jacket material, jacket color, and connector performance grade.
In addition to the standard 96-fiber configuration, customized high-count assemblies are available in 12-fiber increments, including 12, 24, 36, 48, 72, 96, and 144 fibers. Hybrid MTP/MPO assemblies, female MTP configurations, different polarity schemes, and special cable constructions can also be manufactured according to system requirements.
How does a 96-fiber MTP/MPO trunk cable improve installation efficiency?
Instead of routing and terminating a large number of individual fiber patch cords, the 96-fiber assembly consolidates multiple optical channels into one factory-terminated trunk. This reduces the amount of field work, simplifies cable routing, and helps maintain a cleaner and more organized high-density installation.
How should Type A, Type B, and Type C polarity be selected?
The polarity should be determined by the complete MTP/MPO link architecture rather than selected independently. Type A maintains the same fiber position from one end to the other, Type B reverses the fiber order, while Type C reverses fiber pairs. The appropriate configuration depends on the transceiver, cassette, adapter, and duplexing method used in the network.
Why choose a female MTP/MPO connector instead of a male connector?
MTP/MPO connector gender must match the mating component in the optical system. Male connectors include guide pins for alignment, while female connectors rely on the pins of the mating connector. Selecting the correct gender helps ensure proper mechanical mating and alignment.
What is the advantage of an Elite low-loss connector?
Elite-grade MTP/MPO connectors are designed to provide lower insertion loss than standard connector configurations. This can help preserve the optical power budget in high-density links where multiple connectors, cassettes, and other passive components are present.
Can this 96-fiber assembly be used for applications beyond 40G and 100G?
Yes. The cable provides a passive multi-fiber optical connection, so its usable data rate is primarily determined by the transceivers, fiber type, connector configuration, polarity, and network architecture. The OS2 version is particularly suitable for single-mode high-speed applications where longer reach is required.
Are test results available for individual fibers?
Yes. The assemblies are factory tested for optical performance, including insertion loss and return loss. Test results can be provided with the cable assembly, which helps simplify installation verification and link documentation.
