The MTP/MPO Fanout Fiber Optic Cable is a factory-terminated high-density breakout assembly designed to distribute a multi-fiber MTP/MPO connection into individual fiber ports. It provides a convenient transition from a high-density MTP/MPO interface to LC, SC, ST, or FC connectors, making it suitable for connecting network equipment, fiber patch panels, and optical distribution systems. The plug-and-play construction eliminates field termination and helps simplify installation, cable management, and deployment in space-constrained environments.

Available in 12- and 24-fiber configurations, the cable can be manufactured with either multimode or single-mode fiber and 0.9mm fanout fibers for flexible routing within racks and cabinets. US Conec MTP® connectors and Corning ClearCurve® glass fiber can be specified for demanding applications, while different connector combinations, fiber counts, cable lengths, and jacket materials are available for customized network configurations.

OEM and customized MTP/MPO fanout cable assemblies are available for different equipment and cabling architectures. Customers can specify the fiber type, fiber count, cable length, fanout length, connector types, connector polarity, jacket material, and breakout configuration according to their installation requirements.

How is an MTP/MPO fanout cable different from a standard MTP/MPO trunk cable?

An MTP/MPO trunk cable maintains multi-fiber connectivity between MTP/MPO interfaces at both ends, while a fanout cable separates the fibers from one MTP/MPO connector into individual connectors such as LC, SC, ST, or FC. This makes the fanout version suitable for connecting high-density backbone cabling to equipment or patching systems that use individual fiber ports.

Can the fanout side use different connector types in the same assembly?

Yes. The breakout side can be configured according to the required port arrangement. For example, an assembly can be manufactured with LC connectors for one application or with SC, ST, or FC connectors where those interfaces are required. Mixed connector configurations can also be considered for specific projects.

What should be considered when selecting a 12-fiber or 24-fiber version?

The required fiber count should match the number of optical channels that need to be connected through the MTP/MPO interface. A 12-fiber assembly is commonly used for applications based on 12-fiber connectivity, while a 24-fiber configuration provides greater fiber density for systems requiring additional channels or higher-capacity cabling.

Can the fanout length be customized?

Yes. The length of the individual breakout section can be customized. This allows the cable to be matched to rack dimensions, patch panel positions, equipment port layouts, and cable management requirements, helping avoid excessive slack or unnecessary bending.

How is MTP/MPO polarity handled in a fanout assembly?

Polarity defines the relationship between each fiber position in the MTP/MPO connector and its corresponding connector at the breakout end. The required polarity should be determined from the network’s optical transmit and receive architecture and the mating equipment. The cable can then be assembled with the appropriate fiber mapping.
